Rubber plant info and diversity.
Rubber belongs to the family of Euphorbiaceae, a large family with about 280 rubrics and 8,000 spp. The rubric Hevea exhibits important morphological variability, with nine species now being recognized, ranging from large timber trees to little farther than shrubs. All of them contain latex in their corridor. Other Hevea spp are tapped in a wild state but are of little profitable value. Some of them may still be important for parentage.
•H. Benthamiana occurs only north of the Amazon River in the northwestern part of the Amazon and Upper Orinoco basins; it grows in low alluvial areas and bogs and, therefore, supports hydromorphic soils; it has a pure white latex which is lower in yield than. brasiliensis.
•H. Camporum native of open downs in the headstream of the Madeira River, Brazil Structure
Hevea brasiliensis is a quick-growing tree, rarely exceeding 25m in height in colonies, where the plant density is optimal for light interception; wild trees might be over 40m high in the quest of the sun above the thick tree cover. The tree has a well-developed stopcock- root.
The box of the tree tapers from the base and is conical or spherical in shape and shows a periodicity of growth. A completely grown splint has a periphery of 15- 20 cm. Youthful leaves are dark red in color, while other leaves are green on top and gray-green underneath. Trees that are old enough, are exfoliatedlinte in the morning of the dry season, terminal kids of branches grow fleetly and trees are temporarily bare of leaves, a condition known as" wintering".
Flowers are borne in numerous. Flowers are small, scented, androgynous,shortly-stalked, with larger bell-shaped womanish flowers at the terminal ends of main and side branches, and more multitudinous lower manly flowers, with 60- 80 males to each womanish flower. unfolding takes place over a period of about two weeks with some manly flowers opening first, lasting for one day, and also dropping, followed by womanish flowers opening for 3- 5 days; the remainder of manly flowers also open.
Fruits and seeds
Only a small proportion of womanish flowers set fruit, and 30- 50 fall off after a month, and more fall off later. The mature fruit is large, and compressed. 3- lofted capsule, 3- 5 cm in the periphery, with 3 oil paintings- containing seeds. The capsule bursts open at the end of the stormy season with a characteristic loud bang, analogous to a rifle shot. The seeds are also collected for sowing in the nursery.
The dinghy( bark) is the most important part of the tree- and indeed of the colony as a whole- because it contains the bunch of cells that produce the latex.
Latex vessels are set up in the tree's soft dinghy. They're modified sieves, and tubes. When tapping, part of the dinghy is scraped, whereby the latex vessels are cut causing the latex to flow. Tapping is done with perfection using special shanks to help damage the underpinning cambium. In the renewed dinghy, the number of functional vessels is increased.
Fresh latex is a colloidal suspense of rubber patches in a waterless serum. The content of rubber hydrocarbon, with formula( C5H8) n, varies from 25 to 40, with a normal of about 30. It's manufactured in the tree from carbohydrates, and it has two major functions
making the factory less seductive to pests because of the taste latex gives to the corridor of the tree, and guarding the factory by sealing of the injuries so that no raiders can access the tree.
Uses of Rubber
1. Rubber is used in gloves, washers, balloons, gaskets, sock pipes, erasers, toys, pens, combs, etc.
2. Rubber is used in the medication of playing outfits, rubberized clothes like mackintoshes, tenacious videotapes, etc.
3. 70 of rubber is used in the manufacturing of rubber tire tubes.
4. Rubber latex is used as a rubber resulting in footwear diligence as a glue.
5. Rubber is used in making the soles of footwear.
6. Froth rubber is used in mattresses, pillows, cabinetwork, and seats of vehicles Rubber is used in telephones, radios, and closets of boxes and is used in medicinal outfit products.
7. For sequestration of electric cables rubber is used.
